Silver

Silver has been used for thousands of years for ornaments and utensils, for trade, and as a basis for many monetary systems. Its value as a precious metal was long considered second only to gold.

As mentioned above, silver is considered one of the precious metals which is very ductile, malleable (slightly harder than gold), can be highly polished and in its pure state does not tarnish.  Most silver jewellery is actually made from silver combined with other metals to form an alloy. This makes it more suitable for general use. Sterling silver can oxidise over time, but if cared for properly it will reward the owner with pleasure over the years. Properly maintained silver jewellery improves with age and develops a beautiful patina, giving each piece a unique character.
